Website Design For Small Businesses

If your website looks rough, people assume the work does too. Your site is standing in for you every time somebody looks you up at ten at night, and it is telling them whether you are a real business worth calling.

Picture the customer you want. They search for what you do, tap the first few results, and land on your site. The text is small, the photos are dark, the phone number is buried three scrolls down, and the whole thing looks like it was built in 2016. That customer is gone in about four seconds. They are already on your competitor's website, and you know exactly which competitor I mean.

Everything we build is aimed at one thing: turning the traffic you already get into phone calls and booked jobs. Your website should sound like you, look like your business, and talk to your customer the same way you would if they walked through your door.

What Makes a Good Design?

There are a handful of things that separate a website that works from one that just sits there. Some of it is the look and feel. A lot of it is the wording, how much of it there is, and where you put it on the page.

Some good questions to ask about your current site:

  • Is the design current, or does it look dated? Design trends move every few years. A site that has been sitting untouched since 2018 reads as abandoned, and people wonder whether you are still in business.
  • Do you look professional while still sounding like yourself? With AI writing showing up everywhere, a lot of small business websites now read the same. Filler words, phrases nobody says out loud, the same three paragraphs every competitor has. Yours should sound like you talking.
  • Is it obvious what you do? Somebody should land on your homepage, look at it for five seconds, and know what you sell and where you sell it. Show it to a ten year old. If they can explain your business back to you, you are in good shape.
  • Are your photos any good?Real pictures of you, your crew, and your finished work beat stock photography every time. High quality stock will still beat blurry cell phone shots. Bad photos drag down everything around them.
  • Can people find their way around?Your site needs a clear path from the page somebody lands on to the page where they contact you. For most small businesses we recommend:
    • Homepage or landing page.Where people arrive, whether they searched for your name or for a service.
    • About page.Customers want to know who they are hiring. This is where you become a person instead of a logo.
    • Services page. What you do, who it is for, and what it costs.
    • Testimonials or portfolio page. Proof that you are as good as you say. Photos of real jobs and what past customers said.
    • Contact page. Phone number, form, service area, and hours, all easy to find.
  • Does it load fast?Speed starts at the design stage. Oversized images, heavy fonts, and cluttered layouts slow a page down before a single line of code gets written. We handle it early so it never becomes a problem.

Our Portfolio

How Do We Design Your Website?

Every business we talk to is different, so every design starts from a blank page. You came to a web designer because you want a professional to build something that shows off what you do in your way. Our job is to hand you a site you want to tell people about.

The first step is learning the people behind the business. We go over what you do, who you serve, what you charge, and why customers pick you over the shop down the road. Then we get the facts and numbers down on paper and turn that into a design.

You see the full design before any code gets written. Change the colors, move sections around, swap out photos, rewrite a headline. We keep going until it looks right to you.

Once the design is signed off, we hand write every line of code. No WordPress, no page builders, no themes hauling around code your site will never use. That is how we hit 98 to 100 on Google PageSpeed Insights.

There are four things we get right on every build:

  • Responsiveness: More than half your visitors are on a phone. The rest are on laptops, tablets, and wide monitors. Your site gets designed for all of them from the start.
  • Accessibility: Colors, contrast, and spacing need to work for everybody, including people who are colorblind and people who get overwhelmed by cluttered pages. Clear sections and readable text keep people on the page longer.
  • Clarity: Every page tells the visitor what you do and where to go next. Nobody should have to hunt for your phone number.
  • Trust: Reviews, real photos, your service area, and your credentials go where people will actually see them. Trust is what turns a visitor into a phone call.

We handle the writing too. Most business owners get stuck on the copy, so if that is you, we write it and we can supply high quality stock photos where you need them. If you already have wording and pictures you want used, you drop everything in a shared Google Drive folder and we take it from there. Either way, the text on your site gets written to rank for what your customers are searching in your area.

A site nobody finds does not help you, so every page ships with clean structure, proper heading order, local business schema, and fast Core Web Vitals. Google has said outright that between two similar sites, the faster one wins. We also make sure your site lines up with your Google Business Profile so you show up in the map results where local customers are looking.

Website Development

$175 a Month, $0 Down

We have two ways to pay, monthly or up front. Almost everybody picks monthly, because pulling thousands out of a small business at once is a lot to ask.

The monthly plan is $175 with nothing down. That covers design, development, hosting, and unlimited page edits for as long as you are with us. Text or email a change and it gets made. New prices, a new service, a photo swap, a seasonal promotion, all of it is included. You get me directly, the owner and the developer, with no phone trees and no outsourced support.

Pages past the first five are $100 each, and a blog is $250 to add.

If you would rather own it outright, the one-time price is $4,000 for design and development, with hosting at $25 a month. Unlimited edits are available on that plan for $50 a month.

Either way there are no hourly invoices for small changes and no surprise fees. One price, and your website gets tended to for as long as your business is running.
